Not An Alien Costume Shawl - PDF Knitting Pattern

The Story

While having the product shots taken of this shawl, I fielded commentary from my husband and his friend (who coincidentally were quaffing beers) that the shawl was reminiscent of something one might find on an episode of Star Trek - perhaps a costume worn by an Alien. Having never watched the show I just smiled, nodded and kept on posing.

However, the name just kind of stuck - but I remain firm... it is NOT an Alien costume.

Finished Dimensions

52 inches (across the top; see schematic) by 16 inches tall

This shawl is knit in garter stitch, is constructed in a chevron shape and worked flat. Written instructions are provided for all sections.

Double increases at the beginning and end of each row create a gentle “V” at the neckline for easy wear as both a wrapped scarf or a shawl.

This shawl best fits a 40” circular needle however the user may substitute longer or shorter needles for comfort.

It is recommended to carry the colors up the side of the work to avoid over-use of yarn and ends to weave in.

Although gauge is not critical for this project, a looser gauge than noted will result in the use of more yardage.
