SUPPLIES LIST: The Unapologetic Sock Mastery Course

While all of the following information will be available as part of your initial download when you purchase your Unapologetic Sock Mastery Course, I always like to get prepped ahead of time, so I’m ready to knit as soon as the course begins!

MATERIALS TO MAKE THIS CLASS A SUCCESS!

Yarn

This master class is sponsored by Ewe Ewe Yarns, creator of some of my favorite yarns to work with. Heather offers a wonderful selection of colors in her Fluffy Fingering line. Heather is creating yarn kits which will be available here: https://eweewe.com/collections/yarn-kits. There are going to be super cute accessories included in the kit, too! The kit will include 3 skeins (for a total of 600 yds/548 m) so you have plenty of yarn to swatch with OR to accommodate longer legs if you like tall socks!

If you want to hear more about why I think Heather’s yarn is awesome for this course, check out our chat here: https://youtu.be/Z1-vpSfp-ZQ.

If you don’t wish to purchase a yarn kit, a standard skein of fingering weight yarn, between 400 and 460 yards (366 and 423 meters) per 100g will work. I recommend having more than 1 full skein so you have lots of yarn to swatch with to find your ideal fabric density. I do not recommend having LESS than 400 yds/366 m.

Needle(s)

In the Unapologetic Sock Mastery Course, we will be knitting our socks using the Magic Loop method of construction. I will demonstrate the 1aat (one at a time) method, so the minimum needle length you will need is 32 in./80 cm. If this is your first time using the Magic Loop method, you may consider using a 40 in./100 cm long needle.

Comparison of needle lengths.

The upper needle is a 32 in./80 cm needle; the lower needle is a 40 in./100 cm needle. A longer needle will give you more leeway when working the magic loop method, especially if you choose a Fleegle Heel method (Week 3), but either length works equally well and for both heel methods.

The size of needle you choose will depend upon your desired fabric density. I recommend starting with a US 1.5/2.5 mm needle. However, depending on your tension, your needle size can range between a US00 (double zero)/1.75 mm up to a US 3/3.25 mm.

*My preferred needle size for the Ewe Ewe Yarns Fluffy Fingering is a US 1.5/2.5 mm needle in a 32 in/80 cm length, but I’ve knit socks on a US 2/2.75 mm needle and 40 in./100 cm long needles, too. Use any needle size that gives you a fabric you love!

If you have the means to do so, you might consider having two needles of the same size available. Each week is broken down into specific sections and if you’re able to cast on and work the two socks simultaneously on separate needles, you can be assured that you’ll finish both (we don’t want Second Sock Syndrome stopping you from finishing!)

Stitch Markers

A single locking stitch marker is always helpful to denote the beginning of round, though since we’re working the Magic Loop method, it isn’t a requirement. Your tail remaining from the cast on can also indicate your beginning of round. Two ring markers will also be used when shaping the heels. If you’re planning to invest in a yarn kit (coming August 30th), these markers will be included. If you’re going to stash dive for markers, since we’ll be working with a finer yarn, I recommend avoiding thick markers so you avoid gaps in your work.

Tapestry Needle

For weaving in ends and grafting the toes.

Measuring Instruments

Both a ruler or tape measure — nothing that will flex too much — AND a sewers tape measure. I don’t recommend the measuring squares or gauge rulers for measuring gauge!

Optional Extras

- T-pins or sewing pins (used when measuring your swatch)

- Row counter (used to track rounds so your socks match!)
