WLSW: KNITTING AT A DIFFERENT GAUGE!

It’s that time of week again: WLSW!**

And today I’m back with another episode of Knit Talk! I’m talking about the details of modifying a project for gauge. I’m using a fairly simple beanie pattern, my The Learning Hat, to talk about stitches to cast on, rows to work, and shaping considerations when modifying a pattern for a different gauge. I hope it inspires you to try a knitting project at a new gauge!

So let’s dive in to today’s new episode!

**WLSW = Wanna Learn Something Wednesday

It’s coincidental… and yet…?

When I create new Knit Talk episodes, I don’t always try to align the topic with a new project I’m working on.

But coincidentally! Just yesterday morning I put a new swatch on the blocking mats to dry (if it ever stops raining here!) and I’ll be modifying the gauge of a popular pattern to use a weight of yarn I prefer over the weight of yarn used in the original design! Can you tell what pattern it is from the swatch?!

If you want to follow along with me as I make the modifications, I’d love for you to join me on Instagram or Facebook so I can share those mods with you, to support what you’ll learn in today’s video!

Sneak Peek Alert!

Earlier this week I dropped a little sneak peek of a new design I’m working on (Instagram and Facebook). I have always, always loved leaf motif’s and this new one has my heart. The shawl was inspired by a leaf lace motif I found on a lace-motif website, so I certainly can’t take credit for creating the original design, but I’ve modified it to be worked in a sideways triangular shawl that uses fingering weight yarn held double with a lace-weight mohair. Mmmm… scrummy!

Keep an eye out for this as a new pattern in the coming weeks. It uses the beautiful Knitting for Olive Silk Mohair and The Fibre Company’s Cumbria Fingering!

Happy knitting!
