KAL Announcement: The Zoey Cardigan

My first monthly newsletter is out the door (how nervous, and excited, am I?) and the big news in the newsletter is that we've got a KAL coming up early in the new year. Can I get a 'what what'?

This new year, starting February 5th, we're going to be knitting the Zoey Cardigan, designed by me for Ewe Ewe Yarns. The cardigan is knit from the top down with raglan style sleeves and a pop of color for the cuffs. The body has a casual fit with three big stripes and the sleeve stripes are offset for a fun design feature.

Why join a KAL?

Why the heck not? They're awesome!

When I picked up knitting again a few years ago I found myself a bit lost for challenges, community, and know-how on larger projects. I found knit-alongs (that's KALs in knitting lingo) and it changed my knitting life.

My KALs are all about learning - figuring out the steps that make up a particular project. You'll learn tips and tricks on fit, techniques, and meet other knitters who are in the same boat as you. This may be your first sweater, or your fifteenth, but I can just about guarantee you'll learn something you didn't know (even if it's just how not to do something).

Where can I get daily feedback?

The Unapologetic Knitter Ravelry group is a great place to stay connected on a daily basis with other folks who are working on the same project. There's never a bad question asked and there's always an answer, whether from me, or from someone else in the group.

What's the timeframe?

We will be running the KAL over 6 weeks so that by Easter you'll have a new, totally adorable cardigan. Yay!

Yes... I know 6 weeks from February 5th isn't Easter, but I know our lives are busy so just because the KAL runs for 6 weeks doesn't mean you'll be done in 6 weeks. I'll wrap up the KAL at 8 weeks from the start (duh duh da daaaaa!): on the Thursday before Easter.

Git Yer Kits

I'm going to be offering kits for this KAL that can be pre-ordered starting on Friday, December 12th and running until Thursday, January 15th. They will be available for purchase here, on my website. Please note that these are PRE-ORDER and the kits will be shipped in the third week of January so you have them in time to start the KAL on February 5th.

Kits start at $120 (price is based on size).

So what do you get in a kit?

Each kit will include the correct number of skeins to make a sweater in your size and in the color-combo you choose, a free copy of the pattern and includes all shipping costs (for US purchases; non-domestic shipping costs may apply).

I've pre-selected some fun color combinations that I think will suit a wide range of knitters tastes but by no means are you bound to my selections; make up your own combinations.

That's a Wrap (and turn...)

I hope you are as excited about this KAL as I am. There will be plenty of step-by-step instructions for those of you who aren't familiar with sweater construction, details on how to make sure the sweater fits YOU (eep... like going off-pattern if necessary) and lots of laughs had by all. I look forward to knitting with you all again and keep your eyes peeled on the blog for more details coming as we head into the New Year.

Happy knitting, lovelies!
